We are delighted to announce that we are working with Jock Monteith, who is an exceptional professional within the salmon fishing industry and has over 35 years' experience on the River Tay and other Scottish salmon rivers. We are delighted to organise the services of Jock in helping to offer you a great guided experience on some of the hidden jewels within the Tay system. Jock will be happy to meet you at your chosen beat, and offer the best advise. This service is from only £100.00.

Jock can also offer Spey Casting Tuition privately - there is a spey casting class each Sunday afternoon down at Dunkeld - price on appplication.

The River Tummel, only a few hundred yards from the hotel, offers you a great chance of a spring fish at a very affordable price. We would expect our first springer to come to the bank in early February, or maybe even in January, with things hotting up from then until mid-June.

At the Atholl Palace Roz and Innes can offer you a wide variety of options for your fishing break. We can arrange casting tuition with one of Scotland's finest instructors, organize a ghillie to help in your quest for the famous Scottish Springer or simply book you onto one of the best spring fishing beats on the Tay system. All types of salmon fishing are available from fly fishing, spinning or harling from a boat and we can cater for individual rods or a block booking of a whole beat for 4 rods with or without Ghillies.

The Tay system offers some of the finest Salmon fishing in Britain and holds the British record for a salmon of 64lbs, caught by Miss Georgina Ballantine in 1922.

Around 3000 spring fish ran the Pitlochry dam in 2007 and the first sea-liced springer can be expected in early February with numbers rapidly increasing into March and April and peaking in May. The Pitlochry dam acts as a temperature barrier for the springers so, unlike many other beats, you are assured of a good head of fish in the beats below the dam. Grilse arrive into the Tummel in July in large numbers and great sport can be had with these fast, fresh run fish as they make their way up to the headwaters of the Tay system.

Fly fishing is the favoured method of catching your spring fish but spinning is also allowed. Conservation of these highly prized fish is a priority so, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the TDSFB, you would be encouraged to return your first fish of each day.You then have the option of retaining the second fish caught.

We look forward to meeting you this spring and helping you to experience that thumping take, which is the hallmark of a fresh run fish. The Tummel is a little-known gem and the place to be to bank your fresh-run, Silver Scottish Springer.

The Castle Hotel Group also has a collection of fine Dublin hotels and student accommodation in Dublin City Centre, self catering holiday homes in Scotland and a Hotel in Prestayn , North Wales
