As we move towards a more sustainable hotel we need to make sure that the best practice we introduce to the management of the hotel is not let down by unacceptable practice by our suppliers. We are building up a database of suppliers who offer high standards of environmental best practice and it is now standard for us to ask any new supplier to provide us with their environmental impact policy.
Some of the main criteria we research are:
– questioning suppliers as to whether they are the most environmentally friendly available on the market. We need to consider quality throughout this process, as we do not want to compromise our guest satisfaction.
– do we need it? Could it be removed or reduced and will the supplier take the packaging back?
As we network with other green establishments in Highland Perthshire it will become easier to pressurise suppliers into taking more of their packaging away, thus reducing the amount of waste we have to deal with.
